How to revise for A Levels

A Levels are TOUGH!

Getting revision right is a gamechanger.

Here are SmartX’s top tips on How to revise for A Levels.

Start Early

Starting early is crucial, A levels are ONLY 2 years long. 2 years may seem long but they go by faster than you can imagine. Each day you’re learning new content and sometimes it will fell like your brain can’t keep up.

That is why you need to get into good revision habits EARLY.

This means by the end of the first half term, you should already be in a good rhythm for revision. If you need some revision tips then check out the article on how to revise effectively.

Past Papers

Get into the habit of learning new content and doing exam questions on the topic right away.

Exam practise is the best way to apply your knowledge, if you can master the art of applying your knowledge to any situation, you will fly through any type of question thrown at you.

Focus on Active Recall

There is a lot of content crammed into your brain everyday. To make sure the information stays in your memory you need to recall information on a regular basis.

Create a schedule for months in advance, aim to revisit topics every 6-8 weeks to refresh yourself. This doesn’t need to be an entire re-learn of the topic but a recollection of the main points.

Flashcards, Mind maps and blurting techniques are the most common methods used to active recall.

Balance your revision

A Levels can be draining, it is important that you still have down time. Keep up your favourite hobbies, sports and time with friends and family.

Burnout is real and can kill your retention as well as put you behind a few weeks in revision.

Mindset

Mindset is everything especially when things get hard and exam results aren’t where you want them. Getting A*s and As at A levels required consistent effort. Avoid comparing yourself to others and focus on progress. Your aim is always to beat your old test score. It’s you vs you!

Progress over perfection

As long as you’re making progress you’re heading in the right direction.
